Abstract

Relying on statistical data and archival sources the author examines the problems of the socio-economic development of the agrarian sector in one of the Volga-Ural regions in the post-reform period. By the example of the household of the Russian peasantry in Malmyzhsky district of Vyatka province the paper shows that rural life was determined by a number of factors. The studies of the Russian countryside at the micro-level have allowed the author to trace the mechanisms of inter-ethnic relations and their influence on socio-economic life, to reveal the peculiarities of peasant housekeeping.
