Abstract

The study aims to identify orientational metaphors and the accompanying spatial oppositions used by the British politicians from opposing parties of the early XX century. In the process of studying the English orientational metaphors, one can draw a conclusion about national spirit of Great Britain in the corresponding time period. Scientific novelty of the work lies in making an in-depth study of the English-language thematic discourse of the early XX century from the position of social and discursive comparison and identifying ways for realising spatial concepts in speeches of the opposing parties adherents. As a result of the study, ways for realising spatial metaphors in the British political discourse of the early XX century were determined.
