Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze 1) the exercise intensity pursuant to difference between belt length and wheel diameter and 2) the difference of respiratory function, energy expenditure and fatigue by posture during cycle ergometer, by using normal cycle ergometer (YA-150) and longer belt length and wide wheel diameter cycle ergometer (YA-420). Subject of the study is thirty male persons, and the main results are as follows. First, volume of oxygen uptake (VO₂), metabolic equivalents (METs), energy consumption, heart rate, and lactate were significantly higher in YA-420 than YA-150. Second, VO₂, METs, energy expenditure, heart rate, and lactate were significantly higher in sitting position using YA-150 than YA-420. In conclusion, when the exercise was implemented to the same exercise intensity, YA-420 was measured longer migration distance and higher momentum than YA-150. Also, when the exercise in the standing position was implemented, the momentum was higher because subjects took exercise as sustaining their weights. Therefore, it could be estimated that the exercise with YA-420 and the exercise in the standing position are effective to promote health.
