Abstract

Pilates is a type of sport that is gaining more and more attention among the public due to the fact that it can enhance and maintain physical, mental, and social health. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of physical self-efficacy in the relationship between the participating motivation of Pilates participants and their psychological happiness. For this study, the researcher conducted a survey of 335 Pilates participants over the period from November 30 to December 25, 2021. For the analysis of the data, the researcher used SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The key findings of this study were as follows; First, the family-oriented motivation, hobby-entertainment motivation, and self-actualization motivation of the Pilates participants all had a significant and positive impact on psychological happiness. Second, social motivation, family-oriented motivation, hobby-entertainment motivation, and self-actualization had a significant and positive effect on physical self-efficacy. Third, the physical self-efficacy of the Pilates participants had a significant and positive impact on the psychological happiness of them. Fourth, among the participation motivation of the Pilates participants, the social motivation and hobby-entertainment motivation, and self-actualization motivation turned out to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between psychological happiness and physical self-efficacy. Therefore, in order to encourage people to keep participating in Pilates, it is necessary to provide them with various types of motivations, and such motivation must be provided in a way to enhance physical self-efficacy.
