Abstract

The varieties of the English language (World Englishes) have been thoroughly studied and described in multiple works that list the distinctive features of each. Nevertheless, a huge amount of textual data regularly published in World Englishes requires research and analysis from the point of view of the cultural identity of the author and their variety of English. In this regard, there is a need for effective tools for analysis and recognition of the English of the text. This paper focuses on the study of the effectiveness of ChatGPT, developed as a pre-trained AI model, in text analysis of translingual literature created in different varieties of English. The study is an attempt to assess the volume and degree to which AI is able to recognize extra-linguistic information that conveys the intentions, cultural specifics and identity of native and non-native speakers of English.
