Abstract

Purpose of the study. To study the changes of TC, LDL-C, HDL-C rate in patients with morbid obesity after bariatric surgery. Materials and methods. The research was based on 166 clinical cases. The patients were divided into 3 groups in accordance with the type of the surgery. All participants had obesity with BMI range from 45 to 54.9 and had distinct deviations in the TC, LDL-C, HDL-C rate. Results. Patients underwent surgeries during which the changes of lipid metabolism were closely monitored. The obtained data showed the normalization of the rates. Thus, LDL heterogeneous fractions were declining in all of the cases regardless of the type of the surgery. TC rate was significantly lower in patients that had biliopancreatic diversion procedure. Changes of the laboratory rates of different groups of patients occurred at different times which can be explained by the different characteristics of the surgeries. Conclusion. Therefore, structural changes in gastrointestinal tract lead to the normalization of metabolic processes which is reflected in the patients’ lipid panel.
