Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the features of using ellipsis in the English discourse language by the material of modern English journalism, showing the possibilities of ellipsis explication when translating from English into Russian. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the identification of a new type of ellipticization, namely: the ellipsis of the infinitive in the function of auxiliary adverbial modifiers, the ellipsis of the split infinitive, the ellipsis of prepositions. As a result, possible explicants of the infinitive in the function of an auxiliary adverbial modifier have been identified. The reasons for using the infinitive ellipsis in the function under consideration are systematized.
