Abstract
이 글은 전남 방언 화자들의 격식적 발화에 대한 미시사회언어학적 연구이다. 토론 방송에서 중장년 남성 화자들의 발화를 대상으로 (ㅓ), (ㅢ), (변자음밑 ㅕ), (장애음+ㅎ), (ㅏ-모음조화) 등 5개 음운론적 변항에 대한 혼합효과 분석을 수행했다. (ㅕ)는 모든 조건에서 표준형으로만 실현되어 ‘*변자음+/ㅕ/’의 제약이 소실되었음을 관찰했고, 반면에 (ㅓ)는 일관되게 방언형으로만 실현되어 이 방언의 뚜렷한 지시자(indicator)가 된다고 보았다. 나머지 변항들은 지역, 연령, 발화 상황 등 사회적 조건에 따른 변이를 보였는데, 특히 중소도시의 표준적 실현율이 상대적으로 높은 데에서 과잉교정의 가능성을 확인했다. (모음조화)는 규범형과 중앙어의 변이형이 같지 않다는 점에서 특수한 양상을 보였다.
