Abstract

The purpose of the study is to demonstrate that an individual’s inherently risk-loving nature is able to turn other activities into gambling. The article considers one of the possible forms of manifestation of gambling passion, namely a special form of love. The author uses F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel “The Gambler” as the research material. The study is novel in that it considers relationships between the main characters of the novel not as a cause of gambling addiction but as a consequence of the Gambler’s penchant for risk taking. As a result, it is proved that the Gambler has an immanent penchant for risk taking, which can manifest itself not only through gambling but also through other life processes.
