Abstract

The article explores the rhythm in Nikolai Leskov’s pieces that form the Prologue («Byzantium») Legends. The rhythmically structured fragments not only define the archaic, dramatic style of the text, but outline the psychology of the characters. The compositional and narrative rhythm testifies to the similarity of N. Leskov’s legends to Herodias and other legends by Gustav Flaubert.
