Abstract
The article presents proposals to the current legislation, as well as to the draft Federal Law “On Forensic expert activity” in terms of expanding the rights of the head of a forensic expert institution. The thesis is substantiated that it is necessary to give the head the status of a specialist in order to provide an opportunity to review the opinions of subordinate experts. It is also important to supplement its procedural competence with the right to apply for inclusion in the commission of experts of persons who do not work in the institution. The head should be obliged to inform the person who appointed the forensic examination of information about the expert or the commission of experts to whom it is entrusted.
