Abstract

This article describes the reason for formation of consubstantial lexemes in the terminological field “surgical instruments” in the German language. The results of the analysis of the terms of this terminological field show that integration of the medical and common vocabulary, as well as the trends towards differentiation and specialization was the main characteristic of the conceptual apparatus of medicine throughout the whole existence of medical science in Germany. The process of terminologization was accompanied by a partial reconceptualization of commonly used lexemes. The presence of consubstantial lexemes in the terminological field “surgical instruments” suggests that scientific knowledge is based on the results of everyday knowledge.
