Abstract

This study aims at figuring out the influences of convergent health empowerment program exercise program on brain wave, body composition, and physical activity of old elders. For the participants of the study, old elders(80.42±8.5 year) were classified into the convergent self-health empowerment program exercise program group(EXG) and the control group(CG) and there were 30 people(EXG: 14, CG: 16). And the exercise program was conducted in 12 sessions for 6 weeks. For processing data, descriptive statistical analysis(average and standard deviation), Wilcoxon signed rank rest and MANOVA were conducted by using SPSS 21.0 statistical package, respectively. The significant level was set at α<.05.<BR> The results of the study are as follows: For brain wave(EEG), as a result of the influences on relative α-band, β-band, θ-band and γ-band in the prefrontal left(Fp1), prefrontal right(Fp2), frontal left(F3), frontal right(F4), temporal left(T3), parietal left(P3), parietal right(P4), Occipital left(O1) and Occipital right(O2) areas, there were significant differences depending on gender. For body composition, the exercise group showed slight decreases of body weight, BMI, body fat, and abdominal obesity in both male and female. For physical activity for male elders, it is effective for cardiovascular endurance and upper and lower body muscular strength, and for female elders, there were significant differences in cardiovascular endurance, upper body muscular strength, and flexibility.<BR> In future, it is necessary to continue to study about how to improve positively old elders" quality of life through appropriate exercise program in detail.
