Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the empowerment of disabled families on the independent lives of adults with developmental disabilities and verifies the mediating effect of the positive contributions of disabled people in these relationships. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 201 family members of people with developmental disabilities living in Daegu Metropolitan City and the results were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, family empowerment of disabled families was found to have a positive impact on the independent lives of adults with developmental disabilities. This shows that the degree of independent living of disabled children increases as family empowerment is obtained from the family system and community system. In addition, the positive contribution of disabled people was found to have a mediating effect in the relationship between family empowerment of disabled families and independent living of adults with developmental disabilities. These research results confirm that in order to improve the independent living of adults with developmental disabilities, it is necessary to increase the level of family empowerment along with supporting independent living for the disabled, and to strengthen awareness of the positive contribution to the disabled. Implications can be found.
