Abstract

The article presents the previously unpublished results of V.I. Katz’s archaeological excavations at the Kytmanovo burial ground, discovered by him in 1961 during routine surveys. The site was located on the left bank of the Chumysh River in the Kytmanovsky District of the Altai Territory in the area of a brick factory. Information from the authors’ correspondence with V.I. Katz, as well as materials of his report and the collection stored in the Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore is given. The researcher recorded nine burials belonging to the Andronovo archaeological culture of the Bronze Age. This is evidenced by the peculiarities of the burial rites (orientation and position of the dead people, the presence of wooden intra-burial structures, etc.) and the peculiarities of the discovered inventory, the basis of which are ceramic vessels. The presented characteristics and illustrations of the obtained archaeological material find numerous analogies in the Andronovo sites of the Upper Priobie and adjacent territories.
