Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine F. M. Dostoevsky’s position in the 1860-1870s in relation to pontifical power as a real world political force. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time a comprehensive analysis of Catholic issues has been carried out in Dostoevsky’s journalism presented in dynamics from the 1860s to the 1870s. As a result, it has been proved that in the 1860-1870s Dostoevsky saw an important political force in the pontificate; in journalism, he reflected on the special role of pontifical power as the implementation of the Roman Catholic idea; in the 1860s he assumed the pontificate’s fall and change, and in the 1870s he predicted that weakened Catholicism would soon seek support and strength from common people.
