Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the honorifics based on the discourse of Korean language textbooks. First, the explanation of hearer honorifics is exhaustively studied in Korean language textbooks. We have classified the honorific expression of speech level and examined the characteristics of the metalinguistic explanation about hearer honorifics in each textbook as well as find the grammatical mistakes. Second, the classification of discourse genres has been accomplished, such as conversation, colloquy, news, lecture, speech, narration, etc., and each has been divided into the speech level of hearer honorifics.
