Abstract
This study aims to determine whether the Adventist view of Scripture aligns with that of Jesus and the apostles or if it represents a unique perspective specific to this denomination. It seeks to ascertain whether the hermeneutical principles followed by Adventists are truly consistent with those of the apostles. To address this, a comparative analysis of New Testament and Adventist hermeneutics is conducted. In conclusion, both New Testament and Adventist hermeneutics share similarities, primarily in their emphasis on the centrality of Scripture. Both approaches view the Bible not as a collection of myths or allegories, but as a historically accurate and divinely inspired source essential for salvation, thus requiring no additional human tradition for accurate understanding. The various parts of Scripture harmonize with each other, and the goal of interpretation is to explain the truth and resolve complex issues or disputes. While Christ and the Apostles used Scripture (at that time, the Old Testament) to correct misconceptions imposed by rabbinical traditions, the ultimate purpose of Scripture is not merely polemical but to foster a relationship with God for human salvation. Similarly, Adventist hermeneutics aims to reveal the true faith presented in God’s Word, with a Christ-centered approach as a core principle of interpretation, reflecting the focus that the apostles placed on Christ. The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that it is the rightful heir of the biblical Christianity founded by Jesus and continued by the apostles. Adventists assert that they are the faithful remnant that has not deviated from the Living Word but follows and spreads it as light in darkness. While Adventists respect and value Christians of other denominations, they especially honor Protestant reformers, highlighting the significance of their theological contributions.
