Abstract

In this study it is attempted to compare the difference of increase rate of rotor thrust between coaxial counter-rotating rotor and single rotor due to ground effect by using computational fluid analysis. Rotor system was modeled with a commercial propeller usually used in small drones in both cases, and thrust was calculated with unsteady-state transient analysis by using Fluent 19.1 software. As a result, it is found that the rate of change of rotor thrust in accordance with the distance to the ground of coaxial rotor with a relatively large inter-propeller distance is quite different from the case of a single rotor.
