Abstract
The history of the spread of Orthodoxy on the territory of Bashkortostan is considered, three main stages are identified: 1) from the middle of the XVI century to the October Revolution of 1917, 2) from 1917 to the end of the 1980s, 3) from the end of the 1980s to the present. Special attention is paid to the conditions and peculiarities of the spread of Orthodoxy among the peoples of the republic, as well as missionary activities among followers of Islam and traditional ethnic religions. Statistical data on the number of believers-Orthodox, religious buildings of the Russian Orthodox Church are given.
