Abstract

The ruins of the double-walled city in Mongolia were compared to the structure of the Dov Ders ruins on the southeast slope of Jargalant mountain in the Bayanmunkh soum area of Khentii Province, Mongolia, which is located to the east of Ulaanbaatar. Archeological evidence indicates that ancient Mongol states used the double-earth walls as a means of defense. We predict that the date of the ruins of Dov Ders may relate to the Mongol Empire period. The indication that ‘city 城郭 (chéngguō) has outer and inner earthen walls’ that were mentioned in ancient Chinese sources, could be the description of the double-walled structure found in Mongolia that covers a long period of history.
