Abstract

To clarify factors that affect heavy impact sound in apartment buildings, parametric studies were performed for field data over 100 places measured under two heavy weight impact sources (impact ball and bang machine). The result showed that the dimension of the room and the dynamic stiffness of resilient floor pad material were the main factors of floor impact noise. Relatively low frequency responses under 80 Hz were mainly affected by the dimension of the room. Responses over 80 Hz were determined by the dynamic stiffness of resilient material. Based on the analysis results, simple regression equations of heavy-weight impact noise were proposed. It is expected that the formulas can guide engineers to consider floor impact noise level in early design stage before construction.
