Abstract

The article presents the results of studying the semantic structure of the adjectives “ numb”, “cool”, “cold”, “frozen” and the corresponding Azerbaijani adjectives belonging to the lexico-semantic group of adjectives with the meaning “temperature”. The criterion to differentiate adjective meanings is lexical compatibility. Semantic groups of nouns compatible with adjectives allow differentiating some of the adjective meanings. The paper discovers the nature of paradigmatic relation of its lexico-semantic variant, in particular, within the word. The lexical meaning of adjectives expressing the notion of temperature is determined by identities and differences discovered when comparing them on the paradigmatic axis.
