Abstract

The study aimed to explore the difference in children"s communication skills according to their book reading and media use. The data were derived from the research statistics on 1,484 10-year-old children in the 10th Panel Study of Korean Children, by KICCE in 2018. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and ANCOVA. The results show that in a week, the children spent 5.15 hours in book reading and 13.69 hours in media use. Second, the children"s communication skills gradually decreased as their media usage time increased and increased as their book reading increased. Third, children with low media usage time and high book reading time showed the highest level of communication skills.
