Abstract

The study aims to identify ways of eliminating cross-lingual lacunae in simultaneous interpretation within the framework of the UN Security Council (UNSC) discourse. The article analyses features of the communication situation at the UNSC, functional styles and language tools, identifies cases of lacunae and their types, analyses ways of eliminating lacunae in the setting of simultaneous interpretation. The study is novel in that it is the first to examine cross-lingual lacunarity in the context of simultaneous interpretation. The attained results have shown that ways of eliminating cross-lingual lacunae in simultaneous interpretation correlate with certain translation techniques and transformations.
