Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to test the mediating effect of resilience moderated by social support in the relationship between career barriers and career preparation behaviors among out-of-school youth.
Methods The data were collected from 321 out-of-school youths nationwide, and the mediating, moderating, and moderated mediating effects were tested using SPSS Macro.
Results First, resilience had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between career barriers and career preparation behaviors. Second, social support had a moderating effect on the relationship between career barriers and resilience. Third, there was a moderated mediating effect of social support on the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between career barriers and career preparation behaviors.
Conclusions The strength of the effect of career barriers on career preparation behaviors through resilience was found to depend on the level of social support. Based on these findings, research implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
