Abstract

The article deals with certain aspects of the independent sovereign states of the South Caucasus, in particular, the residence requirement for a candidate for the post of President of South Ossetia, the conflicts that South Ossetian society faced in the presidential elections until recently. The legal problems of the statehood of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which have been building democratic legal states for 14 years, are also analyzed. The author draws attention to many political and legal documents on the basis of which the state is built in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali. Particular attention is drawn to the analysis of the "Declaration on the principles of international law", which concerns friendly relations and cooperation between states and peoples. An important element of national self-determination is the right of peoples to seek and receive support on the basis of the UN Charter, which is analyzed in the proposed article. Arguments are given against various versions of far-fetched pretexts for allegedly providing assistance and realizing the nation's right to self-determination.
