Abstract
The article examines lexemes in the semantic field of the concept of anger in English and Bulgarian. The lexeme (gnyav/anger) is analyzed alongside with other lexemes regarded as subordinate ones. This analysis is based on dictionary definitions and contextual use in widely accessible examples from English and Bulgarian online corpora. The model of analysis is based on the classical framework which involves a reference situation of the concept, establishing the significance of the concept in the linguistic picture of the world according to data from language dictionaries; etymological data and contextual usage, based on ad hoc corpora examples. The associations and the significance of the concept in the respective culture(s) are examined, too. With the help of a double directional analysis the nuances in the semantic meaning and cultural specificities of the lexemes are compared.
