Abstract

The research aims to study strategies for interethnic interaction in relation to the Russians that are present in the Tatar virtual communities. For this purpose, the researchers have examined the image of the ethnic majority of the country and the existing prejudices against it, using the three largest Tatar groups in the social network “VKontakte” as examples. Special attention was paid to the triggers that actualise negative connotations of the Russians. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that social attitudes were studied through virtual footprints in new ethnic institutions. As a result of the research, the most distinctive strategies for interethnic interaction set by administrators and the community members have been identified.
