Abstract
Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) is a connective tissue impairment commonly seen in pregnant and postpartum women, causing significant physical and cosmetic concerns. Possible connections of DRA to several musculoskeletal dysfunctions, such as pelvic floor dysfunctions, pregnancy-related low back pain and impaired abdominal muscle strength have been postulated; thus, making DRA management important for the functionality and the quality of life of women following pregnancy. According to international guidelines, conservative management of DRA is the gold standard approach nowadays. However, there is no consensus in literature, about the most effective type of rehabilitation exercises for DRA. The aim of this review is to report current evidence on DRA rehabilitation as well as make suggestions for future clinical research.
