Abstract

The article examines different conceptions and interpretations of telescopy as a word-formative process in the modern French language. The paper aims to provide a critical survey of the related scientific works and to identify the level of theoretical knowledge on this issue regarding the following research stages: establishing historical basis, processing conceptual and terminological apparatus, formulation of basic theoretical provisions, identifying the main types of telescopic units, etc. The authors involve some works that have not received coverage yet in the publications of domestic scientists - the representatives of the linguistic science.
