Abstract
Ahwaz Issue Attempts to present the Issue to the Arab League and Position of Popular Organizations and Associations (1946-1979) Sameh Ibrahim Abdel Fattah Abdel Aziz Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary History, Department of History and Civilization, Faculty of Arabic Language, Al-Azhar University, Mansoura Branch Email: 6449@iu.edu.sa Abstract: After the Arab States had been exposed to division that created weak states after the First World War, and under the conditions of the settlements driven by the ambitions of the Occupying States, a historical plot took place on 20 April 1925 AD. Such plot was planned by Britain in collusion with Iran. They planned that Iran would occupy the Arab Region of Ahwaz. Iran not only changed its name to Khuzestan, but also sought to change its Arab identity in preparation for its integration into their emerging country. However, Ahwaz never submitted to the Iranian occupation authority and Ahwaz people resisted such occupation militarily and politically to maintain their culture and identity. Ahwaz people attempted to gain the Arab sympathy to support them, but they did not receive the required support from the Arab States that turned their sights entirely to resist the foreign occupation in their lands and resist the Jews to expel them from Palestine. The Issue was repeatedly referred to the Arab League by delegations and repeated memoranda, whereby the Arab League was requested to save that Arab people. Finally, the issue was recorded for the first time in the agenda of the Arab League Summit Conference held in Cairo in 1964. Some decisions supporting the Arab rights were issued. In general, such decisions did not change the tragic reality in which the population lived, and it did not achieve their objectives. While Arab Ahwaz Issue was ignored by the Arabs, it received remarkable support from the unofficial Arab bodies and organizations that recognized the Arabism of the region; called for its inclusion in the map of the Arab world, teaching its history and geography, and making room for its children in educational institutions inside the Arab States; and kept spreading scandals of the Persian occupation through media. Key words: Al-Ahwaz issue - the Arab League - popular organizations - civil associations.
