Abstract

The research objectives are as follows: to reveal mechanisms for implementing the Soviet anti-alcohol policy in small towns of Krasnoyarsk region in the 1920s in the context of cultural transformations focused on forming new moral and ethical orientations. Scientific originality of the study involves analysing previously unpublished archival materials, which makes it possible to evaluate efficiency of implemented anti-alcohol measures from a provincial’s viewpoint. The research findings are as follows: the author shows that, in spite of the authorities’ violent efforts “to transform” a human being, the Soviet state did not manage to change people’s worldview, everyday habits and lifestyle within a short time period.
