Abstract
In the article on the basis of the analysis of criminal legislation of the period of the Russian Empire from 1846 to the moment of its collapse in 1917 the main regularities of the development of norms on counteraction to acts of extremist orientation (including obstruction of the functioning of banned communities) are outlined. The measures taken by the legislator to prevent the activities of secret societies, as well as to personalize the responsibility of their members are given. At the same time, the analyzed period of development of domestic legislation on criminal liability for extremist crimes is conditionally divided into two stages.
