Abstract

The purpose of the study is to prove relevance of using authentic foreign-language film discourse in foreign language teachers’ methodological base at higher school with senior language students at the intermediate and advanced levels of foreign language proficiency (within the scope of this article, it is English) at all the stages of education. The work is novel in that it identifies features of using authentic foreign-language film discourse in English classes to teach students to recognise linguo-pragmatic aspects of film characters’ speech behaviour in authentic foreign-language film discourse, which is a necessary component for communicative competence development. As a result, it is proved that authentic foreign-language film discourse use has a positive effect on the study of a foreign language and is a generally accessible educational element that can address not only cognitive and foreign-language professional and communicative challenges but also social and cultural ones.
