Abstract

The paper aims to reveal the peculiarities of formation and functioning of synonymic prefixal forms which differ in their stylistic characteristics in the Russian language. The article considers the model of stylistic differentiation of prefixal forms by the examples presented in authoritative Russian dictionaries, as well as by the material of the written records of the 17th century. The scientific originality of the research lies in the approach which implies that the selection of formal units happens not only at the lexical, but also at the syntactic level. As a result, a complex of lexical and stylistic characteristics which evolved at different synchronic periods has been identified.
