Abstract

The possibility of а remote approach to investigate soil and vegetation covers dynamics over a long-term period has been considered. The paper presents the experience of using the vegetation index (VI), reflecting the state of vegetation. For VI determining the OneSoil online service (https://app.onesoil.ai) was used as a tool. Previously, key areas with different types of soil cover by texture, salinization degree, and vegetation cover were identified. Based on 45 different and multi-season satellite images with a given time resolution, a picture of the dynamics of changes in the values of VI scale limits by the degree of projected vegetation coverage was obtained. It's well known that vegetation is an indirect indicator of soil cover condition, which identifies soil cover condition with high accuracy. High anthropogenic pressing, climatic changes and extremely dry summer 2020 promoted intensive landscape degradation in the South of Russia. As a result, it was revealed that during the five-year period, negative changes in the annual values of the growing index decreased by almost 2.5 times.
