Abstract

The paper analyzes R. Montenegro’s (1885-1968) graphical works dedicated to a famous ballet dancer Vaslav Fomich Nijinsky (1889-1950). The research objective includes revealing painter’s creative method that fits Nijinsky’s choreographic style. Artists’ creative work is analyzed in the context of artistic traditions of the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. The author focuses on the problem of dance graphical interpretation; scientific originality of study involves analyzing R. Montenegro’s perception of Nijinsky’s choreographic imagery. The findings indicate that classical Art Nouveau style, the trend of the time, inspired painter’s creative imagination.
