Abstract
The transport sector accounts for about a quarter of the world’s total energy consumption, with most of it on road transport. The consumption of fossil fuels (gasoline and diesel fuel) dominates in road transport. Due to environmental problems, there is an urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in alternative vehicles and low-carb fuels based on renewable energy sources. The article analyzes the strategic documents of Russia, Finland and Norway in the field of the use of renewable energy in transport, discusses the main trends and prospects for the use of renewable energy in transport. The Finnish and Norwegian experience of switching to RES in transport shows that this requires significant government subsidies and tax incentives, as well as the willingness of the population to bear additional costs to ensure a high quality of life.
