Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the terminological potential of the Yakut lexical units selected from unpublished materials resulting from the expeditionary activity of A. S. Lukovtsev, a junior research fellow at the Lexicology and Lexicography Sector of the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Yakut subsidiary of the Siberian branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in the 1970s. The paper examines the Yakut lexical units belonging to the sphere of hunting and fishing extracted from archival materials to ascertain whether they can be used in the creation of specialized dictionaries. The study is novel in that it is the first to determine the terminological suitability and potential of using the Yakut lexical units belonging to the sphere of hunting and fishing identified by A. S. Lukovtsev. The results have shown that the vocabulary selected from the materials considered is a valuable resource for the development of the terminology of the Sakha language, especially in the sphere of hunting and fishing. The use of the selected lexical units in the compilation of a terminological dictionary of hunting and fishing of the Yakut language will make it possible to convey the specifics of these types of activities within the framework of the culture and traditions of the Sakha people more accurately and to a fuller extent.
