Abstract
The coal industry acts as the most important and discussed sector of the fuel and energy complex, which is the main source of federal budget revenues, as well as the foundation of state sovereignty. This industry creates tens of thousands of jobs, forms cities and entire regions within countries. The article is focused on the system of socio-economic measures for the development of the Russian coal industry that is in demand in the modern world, subsequently aimed at strengthening its energy security. The significance of the study is determined by the presence of problems that hinder the sustainable development of this industry. In the process of studying, the main trends in improving the country's coal activities were identified. The most acute problems of its functioning are analyzed, as well as measures aimed at their elimination are considered. Based on the results of the study, the author proposes probable mechanisms and ways to enhance the economic efficiency indicator to increase the level of energy security.
