Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of methodological approaches in the development of phonetic skills of technical university students at the initial stage of training. The disadvantages of the alphabetic-orthoepic introductory course of a foreign language, traditionally used in non-linguistic universities, are given. As an alternative, the phonetic-transcriptional course, the oral introductory course, the “word-sentence method” and the “sentence method” are considered, which are built on the holistic memorization of reading and graphics of words and sentences. The author analyses the methods of activating graphic forms and reading orally learned words.
