Abstract

The article examines influence of the foreign intellectual factor on the USSR industrialization through the lenses of activity of the Military Technical Bureau and intelligence service. The role of foreign scientific and technical information in the process of industrialization is shown. Special attention is paid to such an aspect as capital saving due to introducing technological secrets from abroad. Relying on the analysis of archival documents, the author evaluates the role of scientific and technical information in the development of resource-saving technologies in different branches of the USSR industry. Specificity of the USSR modernization development in the 1930s is analysed.
