Abstract

The article discusses topical issues of increasing the motivation of students of non-linguistic universities to learn a foreign language. According to the article, the definition of “motivation” is given, its types are consid-ered, the importance of the subject’s interest for the successful learning of a foreign language in the university is noted. Consideration is given to such a concept as “foreign-language anxiety”. The article describes the re-sults of a study of the motivation to learn a foreign language of students of a non-linguistic university, character-izes the factors that impede and contribute to the motivated study of a foreign language by university students. The functions of artificial intelligence (AI), which can be used in teaching foreign languages, the possibilities of using digital tools (neural networks, chat-bots, virtual reality technologies) have been identified to increase the motivation to learn a foreign language among university students and reduce their foreign language anxiety.
