Abstract

The article is devoted to the description of possibilities of applying main approaches implemented in Classical languages teaching at universities in the practice of the Gothic language teaching. The purpose of the article is to consider the methodology of the Gothic language teaching as a part of Classical languages and cultures course. Methods of research. In the course of work the following research methods were applied: analysis and observation. Research results. Various exercises used by the author in her own practice are presented in the article. The author emphasizes that it is necessary to diversify the forms of work for the emergence of cognitive interest and motivation to learn the language in students. When implementing the approach described in the article, by the end of the Classical languages and cultures course, students acquire the ability to analyze authentic texts in the Gothic language, develop memory, logical thinking, the ability to read the text thoughtfully, work with a dictionary, etc. It is concluded that it is necessary to supplement the grammatical approach to the presentation of the material with elements of typological and cultural approaches, as well as it is meaningful to introduce such exercises for the development of students' linguistic and metalinguistic competencies, which are based on adapted Gothic texts.
