Abstract

The article examines the principle of comparativity when teaching verbal predicative constructions. A translation-oriented text analysis related to the translation of personal verb forms with their categories of an aspect, voice and mood is influenced by functionality of these grammatical categories in the speech. Due to shortage of classroom studies focused on a translation activity, translation techniques should be considered inductively, i.e. teaching process should include comparing the Russian and English texts. The author argues that translation is a means to develop cognitive skills peculiar for a scientific activity in general.
