Abstract
The article discusses the consistency of the negative assessment of M. V. Lomonosov’s historical heritage conducted by the supporters of the Norman theory. The appeal to Lomonosov’s works and the level of scientific knowledge of his time shows that he became, like G. Z. Bayer, G. F. Muller, A. L. Schlozer, a highly professional historian in the course of independent and long-term work, created generalizing writings on the Russian history (the German scientists were not able to produce them) and made a number of important discoveries at the dawn of the development of the national historical science including in the Varangian issue. Foreign contemporaries set a high value on Lomonosov’s historical writings.
