Abstract

There are various distributions of the Japanese case particle ‘から(kara)’ that is corresponding to the Korean word ‘부터/에서/으로(buteo/es∂/euro)’. In Japanese, ‘から’ is used for all expressions of a ‘starting point’, but in Korean, it is divided into ‘부터/에서/으로’. For this reason, confrontations and errors among Japanese learners of Korean frequently occur. Therefore, in this paper, the meaning of ‘부터/에서/으로’ was distinguished by the use of time, space and action, and the corresponding pattern with Japanese was examined. First of all, the starting point of time ‘부터’ is divided into five meanings: [the starting point], [the degree to which something is late and fast], [origin, original form], [order], and [compare/contrast], and only respond with the Japanese word ‘から’. Second, the starting point of space ‘에서’ is divided into four meanings: [the starting point], [location/place], [basis], and [target], and there are cases where ‘から’ is replaced with ‘で’ and ‘に’. Third, the starting point of action ‘으로’ is also divided into four meanings: [passing through], [material/base material], [decision], and [reason/cause], and there are cases where ‘から’ is replaced with ‘で’. This study is meaningful in that it understood the interference of Japanese-speaking learners in their native language and laid an educational foundation to prevent errors through comparison of the ‘starting point’ expressions of both Korea and Japan.
