Abstract

The article is dedicated to the study of the image of the Sun in Russian and Chinese linguistic consciousness using Ch. Osgood’s semantic differential method. The aim of the research is to identify the ethnocultural peculiarities of perception and interpretation of the image of the Sun as a fragment of the mental models of Chinese and Russian youth. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the empirical confirmation of the associative semantics of the image of the Sun and the identification of the national and cultural peculiarities of the structure and content of the semantic space of the Sun in the consciousness of the young generation of the two nations. As a result, it has been established that both groups of respondents demonstrate a positive attitude towards the image, but overall, in comparison with Russians, Chinese respondents show higher ratings above the threshold value, which brings them closer to the positive pole of the scale. The correlation between the results of the psychosemantic experiment and the linguocognitive classification of consciousness components provides a more complete understanding of the content of the image of the Sun in the mental space of the youth in the two cultures.
