Abstract

The article is devoted to the consideration of the case of closing drinking establishments in the village of Maksimovka, Samara province, by deputies from the Commission on Anti-Drunkenness Measures of the Third State Duma of the Russian Empire. The system of the regulation of the number of places for drinking trade in rural areas that developed at the beginning of the XX century in Russia under the conditions of the state monopoly for the sale of ardent spirits is analysed in the specific context. On the basis of the archival data, published for the first time, the conclusion is drawn about the existed contradictions between various authorities and rural societies regarding the closure of drinking establishments in the village.
